China’s Internet has become the world’s second largest source of personal information

Senior Director of Marketing of the Symantec Consumer Business Unit, head of Asia Pacific and Japan marketing WU Youyou disclosed that, according to Symantec statistics that over one-fifth of worldwide Internet users globally will become victims of cyber crime, while China has become the second largest network of virus and breeding ground for crime after the United States, followed by Germany, the United Kingdom and Brazil. At present, in the black market transactions, a complete personal identification information is valued for 70 RMB, a credit card information has a value of 6.86 yuan. Wu said that in 2008 the average number of monthly attempted malicious code attacks globally intercepted by Symantec was more than 245 million, virus threats trend was increasing.

Senior manager of Symantec China Safety technology and Response Center – Bai Fan – introduced that, in China, cyber crime was characterized as “a shot, a change of place”, viruses and malware authors just wanted to obtain economic benefits without destroying computer hardware and normal use of systems, and they secretly sneaked into the user’s computer to steal information and then quickly fled, and quickly change the characteristics of the virus, more like a “thief” rather than “bandits”, but this hidden way of strong and diverse cyber crimes is harder to prevent.”

Bai Fan said since 2002 every year there were 20,000 new Internet threats, whereas under the current development situation, annual increase of the number of threats till 2010 will reach 3 million, the traditional security and antivirus software working mode is hard to catch up with the speed of the virus. Therefore, the latest release, “Norton 2010″ Integration of a reputation-based security mechanism, that is, similiar to the public comments net and Taobao, based on user ratings, combined with Symantec Security Center’s backend monitoring, integrated for the users to provide reliable level of security recommendations for software, documentation or web site. In the next decade, the Internet security industry will have to be based on Smart Cloud protection technology.
