Testimonial:
I felt good. I had already received job offers before I left, which made me feel confident about my future.
Please tell us a bit about yourself. What were you doing professionally before the bootcamp?
I am 28 years old, and I enjoy game development, reading and working with Raspberry Pi. Prior to Coding Dojo I was an Ethical Hacker/Community Manager for Divergence Academy.
Why did you choose to enroll in a bootcamp for coding?
Although the transition from Ethical Hacking and Coding was not a huge leap for me, I realized that I wanted more than just to watch other people’s code for errors. I still do this, but in a different capacity.
What was the secret to Coding Dojo’s success? Why did you choose Coding Dojo over other programs?
It was three stacks, which I loved. Other programs were shorter, but they focused on one stack, which was not what I was looking.
How was it to get ready for bootcamp? Were you nervous, excited, etc.? How did you prepare?
I had been to an earlier boot camp for ethical hacking so I knew what it would be like to drink from a water hose. I completed everything as soon as possible and tried to keep up with the pace even if I didn’t understand the concepts at first.
Talk us through the first few weeks of the program. Which parts were your favorites? What parts were difficult?
If you did your homework before starting the course, they were quite simple. I enjoyed the freedom to create and build things.
What were your strategies for overcoming the difficulties you faced?
I didn’t have any, but I did have a little background in game development which allowed me to feel at ease when working on the projects.
Do you have any funny stories to share about bootcamp? Make friends! Do you have fond memories?
I was able to create a group of veterans who worked together to learn the concepts from the course. I still keep in touch with them and offer my assistance when I can.
How did you feel about your job prospects and skills as you neared graduation?
I felt good. I had already received job offers before I left, which made me feel confident about my future.
How did your job hunt go? How did you land a job at your current job?
Adyton was the company that hired me as a full-stack engineering engineer at Seamless.
Did the bootcamp provide you with anything other than coding skills?
The 20-minute rule was a great help. It also allowed you to talk to a rock or duck and think out loud.
What advice would you give to others interested in coding bootcamps, or just starting one?
Boot camps are designed to give you a lot of knowledge in a short time. It’s unlikely that you will become an expert in everything in that time. But, find what you enjoy and continue to work on it.
What are your future goals/dreams, in five or ten years?
