“The increase of China’s netizen population is astonishing and the country’s online advertising is also growing rapidly,” said Mixi’s spokesperson Hirono Kobayashi. “There were 172 million Internet users in China in 2007 and the number is expected to reach 200 million in 2010, and this will make China an Internet market with the most Internet users.”

Mixi has not figured out what kind of service to launch in China, but according to Kobayashi, they will probably provide the service in Chinese.

Owning about 13 million users, Mixi.jp is the second largest portal website in Japanese, next to Yahoo.

Kyocera will terminate the agreement with its Chinese partner China Zhenhua Technology with whom it set up a JV in China and transfer its stake in the JV to the latter and a Hong Kong company, free of charge, in March. Kyocera will also give up its creditor’s right worth about RMB57.6 million.

As one of the largest CDMA mobile phone manufacturers in the world, Kyocera entered the Chinese market in 2001 and set up Kyocera-Zhenhua Communications Equipment Company with China Zhenhua in which it has invested more than RMB300 million.

Kyocera will now focus on the North America Market after withdrawing from China.

Under the alliance agreement, CFO and China Telecom will establish and maintain a co-branded financial channel on China Telecom’s broadband portal Vnet, which also serves as the payment platform for China Telecom’s broadband subscribers for various Internet value-added services. China Telecom will distribute CFO’s products through the Vnet portal as well as its over 10 thousand business halls, and the two parties will split the revenues according to the agreed-upon scheme under the alliance agreement.

‘With the booming of China stock market and the increasing demand of our subscribers on financial information, the alliance with CFO is a very important step for us to enter into financial information and service sector,’ said Lisheng Ye, deputy director of China Telecom’s Internet and Value- Added Business Division, ‘We believe the CFO’s unrivaled expertise will be instrumental in helping us better develop Internet value-added services and to explore new business models.’

Based on Chinese users’ demand and the market features of China, Microsoft’s Map Search contains information on 114 Chinese cities, with a focus on bus transfer routes during the initial period. Tao Chuang, senior director of Microsoft’s Virtual Earth team and person in charge of Microsoft’s local search service, said that Microsoft’s success in local search, including map search, relied on complete localization of the content, localized development and application as well as close cooperation with local business partners.

China Network Economy Research Center’s report shows that the market value of China’s map search will break RMB500 million in 2008 and it will reach RMB1.5 billion in 2010.

Femtocells are 3G access points and are low-cost basestations optimized for deployment inside buildings to improve coverage and data rates. The new design was developed in China at picoChip’s Beijing design center. TD-SCDMA is the third major 3G standard, and is expected to launch in the Olympic cities this summer.

Yang Hua, the secretary general of TD-SCDMA Industry Alliance, said, ‘Femtocells are an important part of the TD-SCDMA ecosystem, and an essential part of operator strategy, particularly as we evolve to TD-SCDMA LTE. picoChip’s achievement significantly pushes the TD-SCDMA industry forward.’

With this introduction picoChip now supports all three 3G standards families: WCDMA (HSPA) through the picoChip PC8208/8209, cdma2000 via GWT partnership, and now TD-SCDMA with the PC8808. picoChip also supports WiMAX Waves 1 and 2 with its PC6530 and PC6532 single chip reference designs, respectively.

The PC8808 TD-SCDMA femtocell reference design supports HSDPA and is the industry’s lowest cost complete solution. The picoChip single-chip platform can integrate both Node B and protocol stack, and can easily integrate back into the core network using a number of different architectures including SIP, UMA or Iu.

The single-chip PC202-based design is software defined and delivers baseband complete with upper layer software stacks included. It is based on the same architecture as the PC8208/HSDPA and 8208/HSUPA platforms.
