PMI (Project Management Institute), regularly updates its standard to reflect current project management content.
The current edition, i.e. the 5th edition, was also updated in 2015 with 8 tasks to reflect the changing times in project management content.
PMI has announced that they will soon release the sixth edition. In 2016, they had previously announced that the 6th edition would be available in 2017. Although the date was not revealed, it was open to speculation. Many believe it will be in the second quarter of 2017.

The latest update to PMI 6th edition, with the changes:
Did You Know?
The PMP exam will soon be updated due to the September 2017 release of the PMBOK (r) Guide – Sixth edition. These updates will ensure that the exam content conforms to the PMBOK (r) Guide.
Active practitioners around the globe author exam questions and the PMBOK(r), Guide to ensure that the PMP is relevant and current.
What to Expect on the New Exam
The PMP is not a PMBOK Guide(r) test, but it is one of the primary reference books for the exam. You can expect updates to the lexicon and terminology, as well as harmonization between process groups, tools and techniques.
The PMBOK Guide(r), Sixth Edition, will contain the following updates:
A new chapter has been added on the role and responsibilities of project managers. It focuses on how to lead projects effectively. This requires experience, skills, and competencies.
Two Knowledge Areas were renamed to better reflect the management capabilities of elements.
* Time Management is now Schedule Management
* Human Resource Management is now Resource Management
Each Knowledge Area has four new sections.
Key Concepts
Trends and Emerging Practices
Tailoring considerations
Considerations for agile/adaptive environments
We are certain that there will be some uncertainty with these new changes. This will actually be good for the profession.
The new changes will bring new books, new material, and new exam patterns. ProThoughts will be fully equipped and prepared for the new edition. Our new material will be available for launch in the market by October 31st 2017.
Are you ready for the change? Get certified before the new edition comes out if you want to become PMP certified in a tried-and-true model. The new edition will allow you to keep up-to-date with your knowledge. Our experience shows that people would rush to get the PMP certifications in current edition. This would make it difficult to get exam slots and dates at the end. If you are interested in the PMP certification, it would be smarter to take it now.
