Amazon Web Services (AWS), recently introduced three new certification exams. AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate has been updated, AWS Certified Big Data – Specialty was given a new name, while AWS Certified Database – Specialty is a brand-new certification!
All three AWS certifications have been released into beta. Learners will be able take the new exams beginning this month. Here’s a quick overview of the new exams and what to expect before you sit for them.
AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate
The entry-level exam for architects is the AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate (SAA–C02). Companies rely on system architects when creating new or improving existing applications.
Associate candidates must have at least one year of experience in designing fault-tolerant, scalable, distributed AWS services. These candidates must also have a good understanding of the services they use, but not necessarily an in-depth one. They will be able to choose the best solutions for their employers when they create new applications by knowing AWS compute, storage, networking, and database features.

March 23, 2020 – First day of the new exam.
AWS Certified Database – Specialty
The second certification is AWS Certified Database – Specialty (DBS-01). This certification is essential for any IT team member. Data volumes are increasing rapidly. According to International Data Corp, the world’s data volume will increase from 33 zettabytes (1Zbyte = 1trillion gigabytes) in 2018 and 175ZB by 2020, a compound annual growth rate 61%.
Data planning and management are becoming more important functions for IT teams as data volumes increase. AWS Certified Database – Specialty is for individuals who manage corporate DataBase Management Systems. This course requires candidates to have at least five years’ experience with common database technologies and two years of practical experience using AWS products.
The student must also have worked with AWS Cloud relational or NoSQL databases. This certification is for:
Database solutions that are high-performance, compliant governance, and highly scalable can be designed
Validate and Execute Data Migrations
Identify ongoing maintenance tasks and processes
Outline Backup and Recovery Strategies
Optimize Database Performance
Common Database Problems: Troubleshoot and Fix
These team members have a deep understanding of DBMS design and can compare the costs and capabilities from different database solutions. They can also take advantage of new automation features that streamline business processes. They can also set up robust backup and disaster recovery procedures to ensure data protection and high availability so that work gets done.
These skills are valued by organizations, so salaries tend to be in the six-figures range. AWS has been working hard to establish itself in the DBMS market, and is enjoying great success with its services. Many companies don’t have the AWS DBMS experience they need because AWS is a new player in this market.
April 6, 2020 is the first day of testing for the new exam.
AWS Certified Data Analytics Specialty (formerly AWS Certified Big Data Specialty)
